Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions about using Call Charlie.

How do I verify a Florida contractor's license?
Every contractor listing on Call Charlie includes license data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). You can verify any contractor's license directly on our site by checking their profile page, or by visiting the official DBPR license verification portal. Search by license number, business name, or individual name.
What is a Public Record Score (P.R.S.)?
A Public Record Score is Call Charlie's proprietary trust metric calculated from publicly available DBPR data under Florida Statutes § 119.01 (Public Records). It factors in license status, license type, years licensed, disciplinary history, and business registration status via Sunbiz. P.R.S. is informational only — it is not an endorsement or guarantee. Learn more about P.R.S. →
What types of contractors are listed?
Call Charlie lists DBPR-licensed contractors across six major trade categories: General Contractors, Electricians, Plumbers, HVAC Contractors, Roofers, and Pool/Spa Contractors. All listings are derived from public DBPR license records for the state of Florida.

Where does Call Charlie get its data?

Does Florida require contractors to be licensed?
Yes. Under Florida Statute 489, contractors performing work valued over $1,000 must hold an active license issued by the DBPR Construction Industry Licensing Board. Working without a license is a criminal offense in Florida. Always verify a contractor's license status before hiring.
How do I report an unlicensed contractor?
Report unlicensed activity directly to DBPR via their online complaint portal or call 850-487-1395. You can also report an issue to Call Charlie if you believe a listing contains incorrect information.
Can I request my data be removed?
Call Charlie displays publicly available DBPR license records under Florida's Public Records Law. If you believe your listing contains an error, submit a data request and I'll review it. Note that public license data published by DBPR cannot be suppressed, but I can correct any inaccuracies in how it's displayed.
